something to consider.. whether on the used switch not working correctly, or on a new one just installed.. is the depth of the switch into the switch housing .

the depth is adjusted with the sealing washers.. too deep and the back up lights won't shut off , not enough ..and they won't come on. ( or vise versa, seen it several times, including on newly rebuilt transmissions. )

In all cases, I recommend doing ALL the testing FIRST... then chase the part. Is it determined for sure the switch is 'the problem' for sure ?

I've found a fair share of worn out/faulty ones.
