You can also change the proportioning, dunno if a Vanagon has a proportioning valve, but there are adjustable ones available inexpensively...Realize that most of your braking force comes from the front wheels. If you find you've changed the fronts to be more effective and yet keep the same proportion of fluid as stock your braking bias will have changed and if you brake while cornering you may have changed the vans characteristics. The proportioning valve also controls how fast each end gets braking force...Unless the Vanagon has the brakes divided diagonally like some vehicles seem to have had for a while..Dunno, my van isn't driven hard enough to worry much about threashold braking..

for what that is worth...you probably don't care you just want safe braking and a good pedal...
