Subject: Floppy mirror + contact cement
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

The driver's side mirror on my '84 is an OEM (unpowered) type and it responded well to the various de-floppying fixes that we read about here and elsewhere.

However, the passenger side mirror is not an OEM type and it shrugged off the same fixes - rubber washers, etc.*

Gumming the bearing surfaces with Permatex or other gasket gums did no good, and after a good cleaning I also tried silicone RTV to no avail.

So a couple months ago I tugged and scraped off the RTV and applied contact cement.

Works real good. There's plenty of sticktion to hold the mirror in place even at freeway speed, but not so much that I couldn't tweak the aim.

Not quite up to Bell Labs (?) or Felder Industries standards, but hey.

* I did not try any solutions that required modifying the bits, tho'. No drilling for roll pins or anything. Such fixes probably work fine, too.
