One of my spare boosters (did I really need two?) got turfed during a bout of "tough love" while selling-moving from my house; it had surface rust but was likely ok. I didn't make time to figure a way to bench test it.

With a brake booster on the bench, if one sealed it (use brake check valve during test?), created a vacuum inside it, and the vacuum didn't change over several hours or even overnight, would this indicate that the booster is likely ok?

I'll be demonstrating a lack of knowledge here, but does a larger than OEM brake booster potentially add more hydraulic pressure to the braking system or does it simply provide more brake pad & shoe to metal pressure with less effort from the driver?

Am asking on a point of curiosity. I am far less knowledgable of Vanagons than Mark!

Thanks,

Neil.
