They Hyena ('88 Westy WBX) went in for an motor vehicle inspection (MVI) last week. The only inspection related issues were a broken rear quarter marker light lens and needing new glass for the side mirrors (underway and should be ready Thursday). I also I wanted to see why the valve cover gasket I had replace in Calgary, before I met the van appeared to be weeping once again (after only 6000kms). When we had the van on the lift with the engine skirting off, we discovered a small drip on the drivers side which appears to be coming from two pushrod tubes. Other than this drip, the engine is running fine (Cyl #1 is at 130, but the other three are at 145). I've opted to put in two split pushrod tubes rather than pull the engine at this time. What sort of service should I expect from these in the Vanagon? I presume it would be similar to using them on the air-cooled engines? I had used one years ago in my '74 thing and it only lasted about 10-12K before leaking again ... but that was probably the guy who installed it (me). |
