Silicone is generally frowned upon as it is extremely hard to remove completely & will affect paint adhesion as well as other issues. Griot's has some very nice rubber cleaners and prep agents that do work well. I have used them on my '90 rubber gaskets. The cleaners remove oxidized rubber & dirt, and the prep agent finishes the cleaning, and seems to facilitate the vinyl & rubber treatment. As long as the rubber material is basically sound, and not heavily cracked or cross-linked, the Griot's stuff does work wonders. Jon
