Subject: [NVC] Need someone to cut some threads
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed

I do volunteer tech work for a local non-profit community radio station (KPOV 88.9, Bend, Oregon, kpov.org) and I've been asked to modify some microphone stands and need help with the work which requires cutting and re-threading the thin wall steel tubing that constitue the stands.

I ordered some dies but after a bit of time it's clear that doing this by hand ain't gonna work. At least with with these hands. Can't get the die to start.

I called the general machine shops here (Bend, Oregon) and those that do manual machining have several month's lead times in front of me, while the CNC shops are not set up to do dinky little onesies jobs like this.

I don't own a screw machine or a lathe or anything like that, so I'm reaching out to the community here to see if someone could do the work. Seems like there are some on this list who may have the required tools and aren't afraid to use them.

The job is to cut a few inches off six thin wall steel tubes, then re-thread the cut ends. Three of the tubes are 7/8" o.d., the other three are 5/8" o.d. Need 1/2" of 27 tpi thread added to the cut end of each tube: 7/8 X 27 and 5/8 X 27 threads, respectively,

I would pay a reasonable amount for the job, and I need pretty quick turnaround. Like one week because the microphone stands are used in an interview studio and no stands = no interviews.

Y'alls can p-mail me.
