I've never had any trouble with the Propex heater running at altitude up to
8K - 9K feet but I'm
know that Colorado altitudes are much higher in some places so I can't help
you there.

As far as placement goes I have mine under the bench seat on the passenger
side.   If I had
it to do again I'd place it like others have in the compartment next to the
water tank.   As you
have found, storage space is a premium in our campers.   I'm not yet
convinced placing it
outside is a good idea but I have no good data points of experience to
judge it by....
