at least take out the old one first .. one to check the connection as suggested .. also .. I have heard of screws or whatever getting out of place in there and harming that sensor. so 'visual inspection' before chasing parts.

I've never had one go bad .. but I always have good used spare ones to try, as suggested.

*all* connections and grounds should be carefully checked.. heck ..I've seen harness bundles full of water !

I usually suggest to resist the temptation to 'think it's a component that's bad' .. ( and start looking for a part before even inpsecting and troubleshooting much ) ..

there is a high probability it's poor connection or corrosion somewhere.. though it could be the cam pos sensor itself of course.
