It's a real PITA. Had to do it twice on my '84. First when the original cable kinked behind the front panel. I was pulling the heater box at the time to rebuild it anyway, but then the replacement cable kinked, too, same spot.

The third one's working just fine, but my son and I have the scars on our hands from all the sharp bits inside that cramped area to show for it.
