For volt metering I have one of
these:

not sure if RS still sells them. I have a toggle
switch so I can measure the voltage of the
starting or house battery. I ran the sensor for
the "outdoor" temperature into the fridge so I
can monitor it's temp. I mounted the thing on
the tiny ledge at the front of the sliding door
so I can see it from driving position or back in the living area.
