Yes, One wire goes to the ECU input and the other goes to a common connection (ground).

They go into a sheath and into the ECU. The fact that is still idles at 2000 with it disconnected is puzzling, and leads me to the ECU.

Does a portion of the temp II wires see exposure to a lot of moisture and dirt etc. ?

Maybe there's an issue further "up" the temp II wires?
