I agree with Jeff,
Yes, that is way less than what I am seeing here in the Eastern US and on
the West Coast that would be considered a bargain basement deal. It seems
like if someone is selling it for a premium they are going through it and
doing the body work and engine rebuild or replacement. On the East Coast
the price for a late model 2wd Westy with a rebuilt engine, transmission,
full body restoration, and some nice upgrades you can see around $30k! On
the West Coast it would be more. So $17k is decent for this van that is a
solid over all van and just needs some body work and a repaint. I can get
that work done around here for $4k and then the van is worth in the middle
$20s. But the customer doesn't want to invest that money into it, just
wants to sell it as is.
The market for Vanagon Westies still continues to climb in value. If you
have one, keep it in nice shape. It will be worth more than what you paid
for it when you go to sell it.
