That is exactly what I meant, anywhere the pads come in contact with the pad
holder, or pistons. They will rub as the rotor moves the pads around when
the wheel rolls. Just don't want to "flood" them and get it on the friction
surface. If everything is running true, and lubed with this compound they
will be quite. I have a brake lathe and do the "grove" trick all the time
also and just never have noise problems. By the way, the same lube principal
applies to the rear shoes. Anywhere the shoes contact the backing plate, or
hardware should be lubed or they can be noisy.
