I just checked the UK prices and converted them, and the van would likely be quite bit more expensive than $50K. The Beach, which we can think of as pop-top weekender is a minimum of 35,000 British pounds. Things like AC are not standard, so add another 727 pounds. Figure minimum 37K which is north of $59K US. And that's with the smaller motor yielding a 0-62 time of 16.6 seconds. A Prius is about 10 seconds to 60, so figure only the bigger motor would come to the US. With a camper interior - stove, sink - then it is $72K US. Want 4Motion? Sure, who doesn't? OK - $76K US - again, these are not with the biggest engine or any options and there are plenty to choose from. I just don't think it would sell here at those prices. I wish they could, and would. I'd love to have one of these as a retirement vehicle, small enough to drive every day, and use as a camper when I want it to. Only thing, is I cannot afford a $60,000 vehicle now, and I won't be able to in retirement either. So I need VW to flood the US market with these and have the re-sale drop so I can afford a used on in 10 years!
