AFAIK, the dual starter option was offered by Bostig for their Ford
Zetec conversions. You keep the VW starter in the stock position on the
tranny passenger side and then have a second starter in the Ford
position coming from the driver side of the Ford engine. I believe this
was meant mostly for Syncros to use in dire off-road circumstances where
the very low gearing advantage of the starter would get you out of
something you otherwise might not easily escape from.
