Well, I'm the curious sort and my innate desire for answers got the best of me. I had some thicker gasket material in my shop, so I traced out a new gasket, using a wood plug cutter to punch out the screw holes. Turns out an Audi t-belt idler pulley is the exact diameter of the inside cutout, so I razored around that. Preliminary results are promising, at least on the bench. Moves smoothly and silently up and down. I'll install and see how it behaves out there in the real world.
