Buying a "good" used motor of any kind is a crap shoot, unless it comes from someone you know and trust and you can actually verify that the given "history" is true....Even then, you just don't really know if sometime maybe your "friend" may have run low on oil, or seen the temp gauge go ballistic, or maybe has a habit of flooring it in 4th gear at 10mph or something. Sometimes a crap shoot comes out great! On the other hand, if you have your old motor rebuilt to your specifications and your mechanic knows his stuff you will be less likely to have a big surprise problem soon.... Here's another consideration: WBX motors are expensive to rebuild properly aren't they? And when you are done, would you be "underwater" with the investment? Spending a few grand rebuilding a type of motor that people are throwing away or selling for scrap after they swap in a different one....that doesn't make too much sense, either unless you just like those WBX motors..

I've been pretty lucky with buying used motors, so far. I am expecting to get a real clunker one of these times....happens.
