I know it is no longer Friday. Somehow if it is cold enough to need or warrant an engine heater I doubt I would want to be driving an air cooled Vanagon. Maybe if it had a gas heater in it.

If you are creative and maybe willing to consider some drilling you can install a heater into the crankcase. You may even to be able to drop a small cartridge heater in through the crank breather or something. I've installed heaters like these during rebuilds. The 250 watt in the oil will be plenty.

Since the air cooled engine do have their operating temperature affected by ambient you can use lighter oils for winter operation. The 0w-20 or 0w-30 will help to start it no matter how cold it gets.

Anyone know of a block heater for the air cooled van? This would be used in cold climates for winter starting.
