When the vans came from the factory they had a clear plastic shield over the dash cluster. The shield had a hole so it would fit down over the fluid reservoir filler neck, under the cap. This was to protect the sensitive wiring from spills while adding fluid. I'm sure many are lost or ruined by time but a little care taken during filling is all that is needed.
