I was a sales rep for many years, living and dying by my vehicle's condition. I made a habit of glancing at my tires every time I approached the vehicle and you'd be surprised what could be found with a casual onceover. My wife has finally stopped giving me grief for looking at other people's tires. She'd get embarrassed when I'd leave notes about nails in tires.
