He is referring to the aftermarket grill available in Europe during the production life of the T3 (Vanagon). They were made by Taifun. As far as I know, they stopped making them when the T3 production moved to South Africa circa 1992.

I see them for sale on eBay.de from time to time. Unfortunately, it's rare to find a German vendor willing to ship such a large part to the US.
