Not on topic....

There seems to be some maintenance tasks on Vanagons that are somewhat 'bone-headed'....nothing but force needed, though you would think they could have done it somehow in a more 'elegant' way.. You just have to bend stuff or push it aside to get at the screw, bolt, adjuster, whatever. The trick is to 'know' when this is the case....I've spent time looking for the "right way" to fix something on my van only to discover that there is no "right way"....you just grab something and push or pull it....hard. "Snap"....it comes apart allowing you to work on the next layer below....or it breaks because that wasn't "The Way"

Also, unlike us here on the web lists, some Vanagon owners don't think Vanagons are such special vans...they treat them like crap and would trade in a heartbeat for a newer mini van of any sort....There are still quite a few of these beater vanagons running around in the Northwest US....but as the Vanagon gets popular again, these abused and neglected Vanagon are becoming fewer....they are worth money again now... Quirky.
