Indicative of an empty fuel tank to me!

The other day I parked at a peculiar angle - uphill and sloped to the side (a diagonal parking spot, on a fairly steep hill) - and found my Westy (¹85, unmodified, about 170,000km) very hard to start. It just wouldn¹t catch.

I eventually got it started with lots of massaging on the gas pedal and a quick bang into reverse to get it onto a more normal (though uphill) slope. Managed to get it up to the top of that hill, onto the flat, and it ran fine after that. Never had a problem before (or since) on hillsÐ

Is a ³side hill hard start² a known problem? Indicative of other problems?
