Soloed in 1961. Went on to make a career in aviation, among other things.
Got my ATR rating (airline transport rating - now called the ATP as I
recall. Went on to become a bush pilot in ALASKA for many years, flying
float plane, multi-engine seaplanes, ski planes, and turboprop aircraft.
Flew hours and hours and hours in pure boredom with no incidents, yet
occassionally interspersed by moments of sheer terror just to make it
interesting. Finally gave it up due to medical issues and age. It was fun
while it lasted!

Flying career and VANAGON ownership periods never overlapped. Don't fly now
but do own two Vanagons - both project vans - the '91 Carat is drivable and
the '88 GL is no.
