In 1972 it was 32 pounds stirling for an hour trying to break the 150.  In Doncaster - this is in Yorkshire BTW,  it was nearly always raining.  


Took a “ride” in a friends Auster, fabric on the wooden wings, and nearly died when I saw the small pulleys and control wires running around the cockpit.  When I looked down and realized I could see real grass through the cracks in the floor - I was ready for out!  Too late - we were rolling and in the air at 35mph.  You could land that thing and be parked up in no time at all.

When I think how I used to just love those spins and learning how to get out of them, now I need a bloody wheel chair to get down to the ramp!
