You alluded to a seal replacement, was it the oil pump cover gasket?

Others have noted that the pump to case gasket is thicker than the pump cover gasket. But I found out last year that the victor reinz gasket set had a fairly thick pump cover gasket. I can't recall offhand what I measured it as, buts something around 10 thou. I think the pump two case gasket is a outs 12 thou.

My pump gear end play was within spec, but the thick cover gasket made for very low oil pressure when engine warm. Bear in mind that this was in a quite old and tired engine.

I replaced the gasket with a 4 thou version which improved hot oil pressures to just within Bentley spec. I later ditched the gasket and used loctite 518 ( or is it 508?), and that gained me a few more pounds pressure. As I said, the engine is old and I am not in it for the long run so the oil pressures fine for me at the moment.

Driving the interstate at 65 mph, oil is at 22 psi, drove for another 40 miles down to the exit ramp and oil pressure light/buzzer goes off at the end of the ramp. PSI was at 6 at 900 rpm's. Is this common? Or is there a problem with my new GOWESTY engine that has 3000+ miles on it ? > > Dennis Jowell > Scotch Hollow Farm
