If I can guess correctly, it seems that the OP wants to replace the "old" style sagging bags of rubber grit with the "new" style (though still old) molded visors of labor models.

I had the former in my 83 vanagon, and tried everything, including making new cardboard inserts for them to filling them with expanding foam clamped between two boards for flatness. NOTHING came close to the later style. Trouble is, if you have a Westy or really early van without the molded overhead, you will snap off the plastic clip towers as soon as you try to clip the much fatter later visors to them. I solved the problem several years ago by taking Bus Depot visor clip towers and sawing the bottom off of one and the top off another and epoxied the two together. This makes them taller, tall enough to accommodate the fatter later model visor, which hold up well and allow you to wire in the lighted mirror if you wish. But mainly, it allows you to use more readily available good-quality visors, as probably zero of the older models are in good shape by now.
