I have one of these and it works fine. 16 ga wire for the solenoid seems a
bit light, but it's probably a very short distance from the switch. The
Pilot may just not have enough oomph, your JNC 300xl that did work is 900
amps peak power, vs. 400 for the Pilot. Big difference, especially at 7
degrees.

Returned the unit to Lowes and got another one just to,see,if it was a bad
unit. Tried it again on the generator and no luck. Called their company
support. That was a complete waste of time. Another story. Going to try
another approach. Install larger cables on the generator right now I have
16 gauge wire to the ground and to the positive side of the starter
solenoid. Why this would make a difference I don't know but these jump
starter units can't be that bad? Trying to justify the 80 mile round trip to
Lowes!
