Subject: Request for detailed install directions for rear heater core
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8

Hi folks,

Eric again asking for directions suitable for a blind mechanic. No pictures please!

I have the bus Depot rear heater core. It has two openings on the left side. it looks like I could clamp the two hoses coming into the area under the seat and minimize coolant loss. the replacement has a straightforward looking fitting on the bottom that the hose slips over and I use the hose clamp.

the top part has two small bolts and looks like it connects to the flip valve. It came with no gasket shaped like the plastic area so I’m wondering if it just goes together plastic to plastic with nothing in between?

the new core has the thumb screw thing but this time has a phillips head. Can I just not touch that at all?

I successfully did this change about 15 years ago on a 84 Wolfsburg but I don’t remember the details.

hopefully this will cure the strong coolant smell i have when turning on the rear fan. No leaks evident so far and the coolant level is holding in the van. then again I don’t run the van this time of year! directions and tips appreciated. I’d like to try this once I get a couple of warm days.
