As a somewhat amusing aside, during a road trip, I installed a CB
radio and put a magnetic base antenna on the dash of my '81 Westy.
This was temporary; I was aware of the RF output.

Every time I keyed the CB, the red coolant LED would start flashing!

I'll be the first to admit that I've tackled Vanagon projects beyond
my scope. But then finding a local tech who I can trust to "fix it
right" or do an engine swap, is challenging. Having my '81 OEM air
cooled engine rebuilt locally wasn't really an option. But then had I
had it rebuilt, I wouldn't have had any concerns of a blinking red
light.
