There are two hydraulic systems in the Vanagon, clutch and brake. Each one has a master cylinder connected to the pedal (the brake master is effectively two in one assembly) and one or more slave cylinders at the operating end; one for the clutch and four for the brakes. The front brake ones aren't separate assemblies, they're the piston portions of the brake calipers. Both systems draw fluid from the same reservoir, but the brakes take their feed from the bottom and the clutch from the side. That way the brake system will always be the last to lose fluid in case of a leak. The reservoir is actually mounted on top of the brake master, and the clutch master is fed by a hose.

'Zat help?

Yours, David
