So there is a separate "master" not connected to the reservoir!!

if that one leaked that, one could see drop in fluid, and wetness at the floor mat, maybe even dribbles on the arms of the pedals?

To recap:

1) brake master cylinder (reservoir for brake and clutch cylinders attached to this)--> the brake cylinder feeds 4 brake slave cylinders for each wheel.

2) clutch master cylinder (takes its fluid feed from the brake master)--> This one feeds the slave cylinder atop the manual transmission.

Any of these could leak rendering the system open to failure.
