I need to get inside mine before long. The adjusters clearly aren't doing their jobs. I'm not sure I've ever taken apart a drum brake where the adjuster was working, come to think of it. Vanagon, Toyota...any others were so long ago I can't remember anything about them: Saab 96, Plymouth Horizon maybe. I remember the Saab happening, because I'd never worked on drum brakes and was scared of them. So when they started screaming I replace the front pads instead. Stuffed them in right out front of the FLAPS and drove away with the laughter of the universe ringing in my burning ears. <cringe> I wish I could say that taught me to respect reality in mechanical things, but I was forty before getting past stuff like "cleaning all the dirt off before I open that up is way too hard, therefor I don't have to do it." I would have laughed at such a silly thing but I clearly suffered from a disconnect there somewhere. Now in my fading years I'm much more likely to do things right even if inconvenient; and when I occasionally do them wrong I expect to get bitten by it.

Yours, and Merry Christmas, David
