CO is not much lighter than air and diffuses evenly, it's like an odorless (deadly) fart only the detector can smell. Positon CO detector anywhere the air circulates, the closer to you the better. If it's a combined detector it needs to be low to detect any propane hovering down there. I must add... Even though this MTI Detector is a LP & CO detector I also opted to ad a separate battery operated CO Detector that you can also get from amazon or home depot etc. My thinking on the matter... LP is heavier than air so it will accumulate down low near the floor. I have the MTI detector mounted down low. CO is lighter than air so it will accumulate up high near the ceiling. I have the separate battery operated CO detector mounted up high next to my stock Westfalia rear speakers. Some people say there's no need to take this extra step that I've taken but I feel much safer in doing so... definitely worth the extra $20 for a dedicated CO detector up high.
