Part of that shifter maintenance should be the replacement of the shifter guides. Cheap, but the tank has to be removed to get to the forward one. A good time to run some big wire over the tank if you ever want to add electrical accessories in the future. Be prepared to either have help or a ratcheting strap to draw the tank up tight when reinstalling it. The plastic bushings on the bottom of the shift lever could likely use attention. The list goes on and on as what you can get to from the bottom of the car, but these (and cv joints) stand out.
