From the factory the original batteries actually still had caps for each cell. For the Westy since the battery should be isolated from living space the compartment had that screwed down gasketed cover with a vent/drain hole in front. The batteries with the tube connection are the cars that have the batteries in places such as under the seat.

Howdy,

I need a new battery, went to local parts store yesterday and they did have the correct size battery, a group 41. However, the battery did not have the small nipple for attaching a vent hose like every other group 41 battery that I've used over the years had. Is it OK to use a battery without the vent hose? This is for a Westfalia.

Regards, Mark '87 Syncro Westy
