ive seen people use the stock '86 up overhead front a/c duct from a passenger van and mount the radio in the front duct opening. why more people dont do this, i have no idea. this is a easy and good looking way to mount the radio/cb overhead.

I have the Behr A/C system in my 85 westy. After years of trying to look straight down to see my radio display, I've had enough!! Here's my research, none or which is a magic fix: I can only see one other place to put the stereo and thats to mount it to the roof between the sun visors. Or course, this adds quite a challenge to how to secure it there. WS Winkler in Germany does sell a overhead console with a spot for a DIN stereo, but after several emails, they seem uninterested in doing business in the US.(Any help on that would be appreciated!!) That is the only overhead console I've found and I don't know where they are manufactured. Another possible solution is the center console box that you find at Go Westy. That console has a drawer that pulls out that might be suitable for a DIN spot, but the builder of that said he couldn't quite get it to fit and would continue to find a solution. I haven't heard if he was still working on a solution. I'm in the middle of my restoration and might have to build my own custom housing for the roof, either out of wood or fiberglass. Not an easy project!! As a last resort, I have looked for a stereo system that is nothing more than a faceplate to control a hidden unit somewhere else. I found only one and it was ugly and featureless. The battle continues!!!
