I'm not sorry for the cross post on account of I'm blaming it on BenT.
Once again the weather gods smiled on bURNINGvAN, it was almost 70 at the beach. Many, many people showed up. Some of whom, like I won't mention names but the first name is John and the last name rhymes with "Vessels", didn't actually come in a van, or even a VW product. I'm sure the Glo...uh, no names, was chagrined but what can you do?
Many new vans, and people showed up, some lived right around the corner in the Sunset district, some came from a bit farther, like Sacramento and Mariposa, but they showed up. Neat vans, regular old vans, filthy dirty vans [Okay Detlev I know it's a disgrace but I didn't even wash my Porsche [when I had one, 61 Super 90 Roadster] so the van doesn't have much chance. We should have a sign up sheet where people list who came and what they drove but that seems like too much organization. Besides it would make the gubnmnt's job of tracking us all too easy.
I got a wheel, oil filters, and a TDI symbol [attached to the back of the van despite the dirt], I'm still looking for lockers, front and rear, dash air, someone to put all this in, and someone to pay for it. Contact me off list with offers. No crowding now, there's room for everyone.Step got a gas tank, many other people got many other things. Seemed to be a bit of a swap meet going on in some quarters. Many things were delivered, some things were brought on the speculation that someone would want them, including at least two vans, an aircooled converted to subi power Westy and a syncro Westy.
But mainly people talking, eating [several tables were set up and I scored pizza! at one], drinking [beer, water and various other drinkables]. Christian and Persephone didn't bring their famous dish which really helped my blood sugar. Paul [the brit from Emeryville] brought yet another van which he had done stuff to. Denis [sorry about the spelling of names, it's just my best guess] was wandering around looking to give away money, as usual. The 1.8 turbo guru was there which is always good but it's so discouraging to look at his installs. It's just not natural that engine compartments be that clean and neat. I suspect witchcraft.
Lots of family, mit kids including a two year old girl [super cute] who headed out every possible chance, mom and dad in close attendance, and a two month old sleeping peacefully in mom's arms amidst the turmoil. Lots of younger van folks too. One guy brought a tin top with a rack he had made. I suspect he made it so he could swipe the space shuttle, looked strong enough to hold it.
Much more to talk about but work to do, places to go, and like that.
So till bURNINGvAN 2016 stay van happy!
Mike

Sorry for the crosspost. bURNINGvAN 2015 was a resounding success. Over 100
vans, Dokas, and other Type II's were counted until it got too difficult to
see who was leaving and had moved parking spaces! There were other in
attendance in other VW's such as Golfs and Jettas plus a couple Subaru
cars. Didn't count or take pics of those. Had to keep the pics smaller for
ease of uploading. Enjoy!
