Nick,

When I replaced mine, I found a step-by-step (with pictures) that I found on The Samba site. If you get the defrost leads disconnected from the back of the mirror carrier without breaking off the tabs, you've won half the battle.

One of my mirrors had already cracked and delaminated from its backing, so it removed in two pieces. I repeatedly applied a glue solvent to the two mirrors and peeled them apart over 3-4 days.
