I'd strongly suggest securing the parts (rack) as shown in Bentley. As per a polite comment from David B to me, if the rack isn't secured it can be twisted when torquing down the "nut". This could affect how the pinion and rack gears mesh. Be sure to properly peen the lock collar at nut.
