Thanks for the information folks.

Seems I jumped to a conclusion in assuming I was dealing with a stock connector and (if applicable) stock cabling. Hope the info I posted wasn't too misleading.

Even though the repair I did to my '81 has held up and the part is rated for outdoor use, given it's location and application, I can see how it might not hold up over the long term.
