I can't attest to the veracity of this technique, and I'm NOT questioning Dennis' knowledge (!), but from what I see, if one wants to leave the coolant hoses in place, here's one persons technique of using a T55 Torx socket to remove the filter nipple:

But then I have to wonder if there's a risk of expanding the nipple (if one weren't careful)
