Today we held one of our quasi regular San Diego area VW van gatherings at a warm sunny beach. There were a couple of Bay window vans, a Eurovan Camper, and a dozen or so Vanagons. One of them was an 1986 Canadian version Westy with Ontario plates. The recently new owner had just driven up from Mexico and out west from Texas and heard about our gathering. He had some vehicle repair issues he was hoping he could get some help with before heading back north to Canada. It was easy stuff and then he started asking general vehicle questions so as to learn more about his ride. He pointed to a green knob on the dash and said "what's this for?" I looked under the van and saw it had a belly pan protecting his BA6 heater so I told him that was what it was for. Then he opened the engine lid and asked some questions about the 2.1 waterboxer engine.
