my very lo-tech way for top dead center on a cylinder is this
- remove all the spark plugs
- insert a chopstick in a spark plug of any cylinder
- turn the main pulley by hand w. a socket and hold the chopstick - you
will feel the top dead center when the chopstick going up and then start to
go down...
