This interests me. The ability to "walk" the boat up a series of pegs came
to me when watching a video of a similar device somewhere in this post. If
you had a formed set of rails on the driver side that hung on the gutter
and was anchored in the jack points, you could have holes where you could
insert the pegs when using the loader and then walk the boat to the top,
easy peasy. Then stow the pegs and tie down the boat.
Or, would it work to toe down the boat to the top pegs once it was above
the door height, and not depend on the fiberglas top to take they weight of
the boat? This offset boat might not interfere with the raising of the
poptop, which would certainly simplify travel to a paddling destination
where overnight travel was involved. But would it legal to drive? At Felder
Industries, our legal department has given us the all-clear on this
question, but then, you have to think, that's their answer to every legal
question concerning Vanagons.
The drivers side is the only side where you don't have to worry about a
door once you are working aft of the driver's door.
