Yes, it can be risky. I put a blemish in my paint but I wasn't very
careful...
There are two screws under the panel, undo them. Then while pulling the
bottom of the panel out so the little tabs can clear the body (look under
and you'll see what I'm talking about) hit the panel upwards with a rubber
mallet or regular hammer and block of wood. It will eventually come off.
Its much easier to put back on, especially with a new seal.
