There are several adjustments for the door - where it bolts to the rear roller and also one where it bolts to the lower roller. It can take some fiddling to get it right.

This last weekend I replaced and lubricated all the rollers/bearings and I also applied some UHMW tape to the surfaces the rollers contact (rather than grease). The door is now very very smooth and quite, almost as quite as sliding doors on modern cars.

While you're in there do some cleaning, sanding, and painting under the panel that covers the track. Also replace the rubber seal for the panel.

I got the idea for tape from this thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=381226&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=8d918102b91aa770399b8c122dbf32cf
