Stephen,

If you drive anywhere north of 55 you are most likely going to see them. If you go north of 60, you are guaranteed to see them. When I was north of Edmonton in my youth we saw them all the time. One spring we drove the Dempster Highway (in a '66 Westfalia) and camped along the way ... other than mosquitos and black flies the size of Beetles, it was an amazing trip. We did learn that once you get too far north, too late in the summer, the Auroras is more difficult to see as darkness is scarce.

You do not need a furnace ... it's actually quite warm up there in the very short summer.

Research indicates that fun, remote places like Iceland, Churchill MB, Ft. McMurray AB and Fairbanks AK are prime viewing spots but if we drive it means we could afford to stay longer if we need to wait out a sighting. So let us know if you know a good place likely to make it worth the drive. Thanks! > By the way, we are not planning to drive the Westy and camp out on this trip. We're tough but we're Propexless. > Stephen
