Somehow I really don’t see how these flares allow any extra room for larger tires or moving them out. They do look really cool and maybe they will help some of the road spray off the side.

How far do you want to space the rear tires out? What you really want is wider tire/wheel combination to maintain the same offset so the center load of the tire is still close to the designed location. Simply moving the tire-wheel outward will increase the loading on the bearings. I don’t know what difference a 1/2 inch to an inch will make but that is a significant design change for a stub shaft with the bearings such a short distance apart. An 8" wide wheel with a 20-25mm offset may work real nice here. I think this flare kit will go real nice with my 235/55-17 on 7-1/2 wheels with the 25mm offset. Just barley clear the sliding door in back and the mud flaps in front.

So I'm thinking about installing the GoWesty studs so I can put some spacers on the rear wheels (now I've got the Terrawagen flares on :o)). Has anybody done this - what's involved? I'm hoping it's just a matter of taking the drums off and hammering the old ones out and pulling the new ones in, but with my luck recently, the engine'll have to come out or something...
